“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play, children learn how to learn.”
– O. Fred Donaldson
At The Maria Montessori Center, we believe that true understanding comes from experience. This belief came to life during our recent Silent Journey, an evening dedicated to parents immersing themselves in their child’s learning environment. It was an opportunity to step into their shoes, to see, touch, and work with the very materials that shape their child’s development each day.
On 30th January 2025, from 05:00 PM, we opened our doors for this transformative event. Parents entered the classrooms, not as spectators, but as participants. In silence, they explored the Montessori materials, relying only on written instruction cards—just as their children do. This intentional silence allowed them to focus, to discover, and to appreciate the power of self-directed learning. Unlike children, who receive verbal guidance from teachers, parents experienced the joy of learning through independent exploration.
As the evening progressed, we gathered to reflect on the experience. Many parents shared how humbling and eye-opening it was to struggle through challenges their children navigate daily with such ease. They spoke about newfound appreciation for the Montessori method, recognizing how each material is designed to encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and independence.
The Silent Journey was more than an event; it was a bridge between home and school, fostering a deeper connection between parents and their children’s education. It was an evening of silent discovery but profound realization.
To capture the essence of this beautiful experience, we have put together a video highlight. Watch the moments of reflection and discovery unfold below.
We are grateful for all the parents who joined us and look forward to more opportunities to strengthen our Montessori community. Until next time, let’s continue to embrace the journey of learning—both for our children and ourselves.
